Fall semester 2018 in Orvieto, Italy.

D I S E G N O

taught by Matt Doll. the man who encouraged me to live, breathe, experience the world around me while documenting it all through creating. in this course with him, i was given the space to immerse myself to one thing at a time. i became devoted to
bamboo foliage,
and vicolo reto lungo.

. . .

one week, i spent those 7 days inspecting the foraged discarded bamboo, experimenting ways to represent its form through depth, proportion, and composition.

three days, i stayed awake, sitting off the Corso on vicolo reto longo. people swarmed me and watched me draw for hours on end on my canvas sprawled on the street and me laid across it painting with my charcoal. one night i stayed awake until 4 am, brewing cups and cups of earl grey tea and scarfing down croissants and dancing around the studio to Taylor Swift, with charcoal caked into the layers of my skin. devoting myself fully to a piece of this size for the first time, was a life altering experience and labor of love i had never experienced in art making before.

taught my Philippe Fretz, my first endeavor of oil painting. another experience of devotion,
we sang hymns each morning …

dona nobis pacem
la ténèbre n'est point ténèbre
hallelu et Adonai

taught by Patrick Marold, partner of Andy Goldsworthy

yet another experience of devotion.

Albert & Ike’s vineyard La Volpara
& giardino a Via Postierla

we spent weeks at La Volpara harvesting grapes and making wine. in our time not working we immersed ourself in the land, creating. we watched over the weeks how the sculptures sustained and survived the time that was passing.

i spent a few days at giardino a Via Postierla, pacing through the knotted path of trees. i began to document my pathway routine with different mediums, string, leaves, video, and photography - each varying in permanence.
