Intervention manual

Materials

Liquid watercolor
Glossy photo paper
Tray or baking sheet
Paper towels
Pipettes or eyedroppers
Paintbrushes
Spray bottles
Gloves
Cup of water

How to

Step one.
Using preferred method (pipette, paintbrush, or spray bottle), apply the liquid watercolor to the tray surface. A little goes a long way, so be aware of the amount that you are using.

Step two.
Place the piece of photo paper glossy side down onto the watercolored tray

Step three.
After letting the photo paper briefly sit, lift up gently. Shake off excess watercolor over tray. The photo paper should be dry almost instantaneously! If needed, set aside on a flat surface to dry

Alternatives
Gloves can be worn to avoid contact with media.
Watercolor can be blotted with paper towels.
For more control over media, watercolor can be applied directly to the photo paper.

Goals and objectives

The goal is to discover, value, and express inner sensations while increasing tolerance for internal and external sensations.
The objectives in relation to the ETC are
Therapeutic Function: Immersion in a sensual experience, and increased awareness of internal calm.
Emergent Function: An affective experience of shifting from external stimuli to internal emotion.

Why

Sensory art experiences that do not implicitly demand a competently finished product reduce the stress of art-based interventions, leading to increased confidence and enhanced memory functioning.

This intervention is also accessible to all individuals regardless of level of ability or functioning.
